As our congregation continues to move through a process that ends in calling a new Pastor for Care & Community, it is easy to focus on the “to do” list alone. There are indeed steps in the process that must be tended. You can see from the list below that we have moved from one step to the next and have but a couple of steps left to take. We received profiles for three candidates from the Office of the Bishop. The Call Committee chose to interview two. This week the Call Committee will meet to discern whether we recommend one of the candidates to the Council or ask for more candidates and keep looking. The steps in the process are, however, much more than “to do” items. They are part of a process that invites prayer and discernment at every step. Another way of saying that is this process depends on the guidance of the Holy Spirit at every stage. We, as a congregation, are not “in charge” of this process. It is a divine journey. It requires prayer. Early on, we asked for your prayers through this process. We renew that invitation as we proceed. Please pray each day with me:
Blessed and Holy Trinity, in you we live, move and have our being. You called the prophets, sent the apostles, and consecrated your saints through the power of the Holy Spirit. In the same way, we ask that you bless the work of our synod and of our Call Committee as we seek to call a new Pastor for Care & Community. Stir up in your church a faithful servant who will answer your call to love this congregation and receive your love through us. We ask this in the name of our Lord, Jesus Christ. Amen.
