Join a Dinner for Eight Group and dine in your home or restaurant, or join a Dessert for Eight Group and enjoy dessert at a restaurant. Each person is expected to pay for their own food at a restaurant. The important part of the gathering is to meet and connect with others. Dinner for Eight involves making a simple meal like soup and sandwiches or ordering out for pizza. The goal is to make the evening easy and hassle free. The group will meet once a month for four months.
What is Dinner/Dessert for Eight?
These groups provide opportunities to meet people in the congregation and get to know each other better. It is for all who are out of high school and older; single, widowed, divorced or married. The emphasis is on fun and fellowship. You will be assigned to a group as one of eight people. Sign up as a couple, or if you are single and desire to be in the same group as another person, then sign up together.
How does it work?
You will enjoy the company of the same group once a month for four months. This is an ongoing ministry, so new groups will be formed twice a year.
But I don't cook and my house is too small!
No worries!
In Dessert for Eight, the hosts rotate each month and get to choose a restaurant (Dairy Queen, Porch Light Coffeehouse, etc.) where the group will meet. Each person pays for their own food/drink.
In Dinner for Eight, one person agrees to host the first meal. It can be something simple, like picking up pizza. It can also be at a restaurant (Dutch treat of course), it can be pot luck, or grill out in the warm weather. It is up to the hosts to decide. The role of host is rotated in the group, so there are always two people filling the host role each month. The important part is to have time to socialize. Don’t burden yourself preparing a fancy meal. That is not the intent.
Being a host sounds scary!
Again, no worries! As the host, you will have contact information for each person in your group. Call and arrange the first gathering. You choose the type of meal and the place to dine. Keep it comfortable for you. Chances are it will then be comfortable for the group. At the first gathering, a host volunteers for the next month.
But we have kids at home...
This is one of those times when the kids are not part of the evening. It is important for all couples to have time away from their children to socialize with other adults and make those important connections. This is your time.
How are the groups formed?
Groups are formed according to who signs up. We will attempt to have a mix of people. Diversity is important so we get to meet people we may not know and new friendships can be made.
I love my Dinner/Dessert for Eight group! What happens after our last dinner?
We are glad you love the group and the experience. We hope you will want to continue meeting others by signing up for another group.
