Family Promise
Holy Trinity's next hosting week is March 12-19, 2023.
It is a fact - many of us are just 2-3 paychecks away from financial disaster. The loss of a job, medical issues, and many other things can leave a family homeless, hungry, and feeling hopeless. Our mission partnership with Family Promise of Greater Des Moines is one way we assist families just like ours get back on their feet; it is a way to make sure kids and parents facing hardship feel loved and cared for in a world that seems to have gone very wrong. |

Family Promise of Greater Des Moines provides support for up to three homeless families with children at a time. Holy Trinity is one of 14 area congregations that assists by providing a safe place to sleep and nutritious meals at the church, for one week approximately every three months.
Guests are provided a safe, secure place to be during the day at the Family Promise Day Center, which is located at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Families have access to assistance and resources related to health care assessment, short term child care assistance, assistance in securing income, limited transportation assistance, referrals for legal assistance and post program support.

Typically we need help with:
- Van Drivers - Family Promise has a NEW van we will use for the week! Drivers drop residents off at Westminster Presbyterian on Beaver Ave. each morning and pick them up each evening to bring them to Holy Trinity. You can even drive the van to work after drop off in the morning if you drive the van for the afternoon pick up on the same day.
- Set Up & Clean Up Help - In the days before the week begins and after, folks set up three rooms with bedding, mattresses, etc. and then launder and put materials away.
- Meal Preparation - Each evening and Saturday morning we provide a meal for the families we serve. We need folks to prepare something nutritious and delicious each evening meal and bring it to the church. Can you take an evening meal?
- Evening Hosts - Hosts will help set up dinner and clean up afterwards. Individuals or families can come for an evening and be available for the guests if needs arise.
- Overnight Hosts - We need to have at least one person (two are welcome) stay overnight with the families, who have been screened. The families have had background checks, and overnight guests will simply need to be available in case of an emergency. There will be minimal interaction with guests. We provide a comfy air mattress and a room in which you can stay. Coordinators will be on call and available should an emergency arise.
